We are located at Plot No. 16 out here in District Raigad. The area is a bit quieter than the main city, which is nice when you are working with wood. At Mecatrix Furniture, there is always the sound of a saw or a sander running. Sawdust ends up on everything, including our tea cups if we aren't careful. We spend most of our hours measuring pieces of wood and putting things together. The workshop is a large open space where we keep the raw materials and the finished items. It gets quite dusty, but that is just part of the job. We don’t have a glossy catalog or a big sales team. If you come by, you’ll probably see us with pencils behind our ears and tape measures in our pockets. We work with our hands mostly. Sometimes a truck comes by to drop off a load of timber, and we all have to stop what we are doing to help unload it. The air in Raigad can be a bit humid, so we have to watch how the wood behaves. We aren't doing anything revolutionary here. It’s just making tables, chairs, and cupboards for people who need them. Most of our day is spent making sure the joints are tight and the surfaces are smooth enough. It is a basic way of living, but we like the work and the smell of the fresh shavings on the floor. It feels good to see a finished pile of wood ready to go.
