Lakshmi Electrical Industries

Down here in Wagle Estate, things are always a bit noisy. We are at number 33 in the Anand Industrial Estate on M.S. Road, right in the middle of Raghunath Nagar. It’s an old industrial area, so there is always the sound of machinery or trucks idling nearby. Our workshop is where most of the action happens. We deal with electrical components, so there’s always a bit of wire offcuts on the floor and the smell of solder in the air. The fans are always going, but it still gets quite warm in the summer months. We have a small crew, mostly guys who have been doing this for decades. They don’t need to look at diagrams much anymore; they just know how the parts fit together by feel. The tea breaks are the best part of the day, sitting on the plastic chairs outside the main door. We don’t have a fancy showroom. People just come to the gate and ask for what they need. Sometimes the power fluctuates, which is ironic since we’re an electrical business, but that’s just life in an industrial estate. We keep the ledger books on a high shelf so they don’t get oily. It’s a practical way to run things. We’ve seen other shops come and go on M.S. Road, but we just keep our heads down and keep working on the orders. It’s a lot of repetitive work, but it’s what we know.
