Operating as Karsandas Khimji Thakker out of Vashi in the Apmc Market I is a whole different world. If you’ve ever been to Phase Ii, you know it starts early. We are over at E-31, right in the middle of all the trucks and the shouting of the loaders. It’s dusty work, and there’s always a smell of whatever is being traded that day in the air. We’ve had this space for a long time. It isn’t pretty or decorated like the shops you see in malls. We have wooden desks, old ledgers, and plenty of stools for when the traders come by to sit and talk. The fan makes a bit of noise, but it keeps the heat away during the humid afternoons. My family has been doing this for years, and it’s really just about the daily grind. We get here before the sun is fully up sometimes to make sure everything is sorted. It’s not about having a grand office, it’s about making sure the crates are moved and the numbers add up. Sometimes the phones won't stop ringing and other times it’s quiet enough to hear the crows outside. We just stay busy. There’s a tea stall just around the corner that we go to twice a day. That’s our routine. We don’t have a big marketing plan or anything like that. We just know our neighbors and we know the market. It’s a bit messy, but it works for us.
