If you take the Eastern Express Highway and head toward Khopat in Thane, you’ll find us in the old Bata Compound. We’re at 7B, right in an area that’s mostly warehouses and small industrial units. It’s a noisy spot because of the highway traffic and the heavy trucks moving in and out of the compound all day long. K-Tech (India) Pvt Ltd has been here for a good bit of time now. The building is made of concrete and metal, and it stays pretty cool inside even when the sun is beating down on the asphalt outside. We do a lot of technical work here, mostly stuff involving machines and parts that people don't see every day. The floor is usually a bit greasy, and there’s always the smell of oil and metal in the air. We have a small office section, but most of the action happens out on the floor where the equipment is. We don't have a big marketing team or anything; we just handle the engineering and the assembly work as it comes in. It’s a lot of heavy lifting and precision. Sometimes we stay late when a shipment needs to go out to another part of Maharashtra. The rain in Thane can be really something, and we’ve had to block the doors a few times when the compound starts to flood. It’s just the way things are. We keep our tools organized and try to stay on top of the schedule.
