General Motors India

Our place is General Motors India and we sit at 602, Shilp Ii, right in The Residency. We are tucked behind the Wood Mall and the Tip Top Plaza. If you know Wagle Estate in Thane, you know how busy Lbs Marg gets. The traffic is always moving, or trying to move. It’s a noisy area but we are up on the sixth floor so it’s a little quieter for us. We can see the tops of the other buildings and the smog over the road. We spend a lot of time on the phone or looking at files. The office is decent. It’s got that old building smell, a mix of paper and floor cleaner. We have a lot of tea because the stall downstairs is really fast. Most of us take the train and then a rickshaw to get to the Wagle Estate Po. area. It’s a lot of commuting. We don’t really do anything flashy. We just have our desks and our work. The lift in the building is a bit slow and sometimes it gets stuck on the fourth floor for no reason. We just take the stairs then. It’s good exercise. We are right in the middle of everything here. There are so many shops and small factories around. It’s a busy part of Maharashtra to be in. We just keep our heads down and do the job. We finish up around six and join the rush.
