Our office for Essar Construction (India) Limited is situated at Plot No 66, Road No 34, in the Wagle Estate area of Thane. If you know Wagle Estate, you know it is a massive industrial hub, so we are surrounded by all kinds of factories and warehouses. It is a very high-energy place to be. Our office is on the ground floor, and it always feels a bit busy with the sound of trucks passing by outside. We have a lot of files and maps spread out across the tables because there is always a new project to look at. The air conditioning works most of the time, which is a relief during the humid Thane monsoons. We have a small team here, and we mostly keep to ourselves, focusing on the daily grind. The walls are a bit scuffed from moving equipment in and out over the years. We have a cupboard full of helmets and safety gear that people grab on their way to the sites. It’s an industrial vibe, nothing fancy or polished. We spend our mornings going through the mail and our afternoons on the phone with the field teams. There is a small tea stall at the corner of Road 34 where we all go for a break. It is a straightforward place for people who like to get things done without any fuss.
