If you head down to Gandhi Bazaar in Surandai, you will find us in the Sun Building. It’s right in the middle of all the market activity. Being in the bazaar means it’s never quiet, but we’ve gotten used to the noise of the shops and the people outside. The Sun Building has been around for a while, and we occupy a space that’s easy to get to. Inside, it’s all very practical. We have benches for the students and a big table for our books and records. We don’t have air conditioning or anything like that, just the ceiling fans and open windows. The dust from the market comes in sometimes, but we just wipe down the desks and keep going. It’s a very hands-on kind of place. We spend our evenings here with groups of students who are trying to get ahead in their studies. There is no corporate manual or strict dress code for us. We just wear what’s comfortable and focus on the teaching. Sometimes we have tea brought in from the stall downstairs while we work. It’s a very local way of doing things. People know us as the place in the Sun Building where you go for extra help. We are just a small part of the Surandai community, doing our bit every day. There is always a stack of papers to grade and a student waiting for help.
