About Sukhmanjit Singh Architect – Architect, Interior & Structural Design in Tarn Taran
My work is based out of Butari village, which is near Baba Bakala here in the Amritsar district. Being an architect in a village setting is quite a bit different than working in a big city. Most people around here want practical spaces for their families and maybe some extra storage for their farming equipment or tractors. I have my small office set up right here near the post office. It’s a simple room with my desk and a few chairs. I grew up around these parts, so I have a good feel for how the land sits and what the local weather does to buildings over the years. I spend a lot of time drawing on my desk and then driving out to see the progress on different construction sites. Sometimes the roads are a bit dusty or muddy depending on the season, but that’s just how it is. People often stop by to ask if a certain type of brick is worth the money or how much cement they might need for a small extension to their house. I try to help out with all the technical stuff that gets confusing for folks. It’s not about fancy glass buildings for me; it’s more about making sure a home is sturdy and fits the life people lead in Butari. I’ve seen many changes here over the years, but the need for a good roof is always there. It keeps me busy enough every day.
