Krishna Dall Mill

Krishna Dall Mill is located on Dera Baba Nanak Road, right in the Dhoulpur Market area. If you come by, you will probably smell the lentils before you see the sign. It is a working mill, so there is always a layer of fine dust on everything and the sound of the machines running in the back. We process different types of dall here, and the place is filled with large jute bags piled high against the walls. The building is more of a warehouse than an office. We have a small desk near the front where we keep track of the weights and the payments. Dera Baba Nanak Road is a major route, so there are always tractors and lorries pulling up to drop off raw grain or pick up the processed stuff. It is hard work and the air is often thick, but that is the nature of a mill. We don't have air conditioning or fancy furniture. It is just wooden stools and heavy lifting. The floor is stained from years of work, and the roof is made of corrugated sheets that make a lot of noise when it rains. We just focus on getting the cleaning and splitting done right. Most of our days are spent checking the quality of the pulse and making sure the machinery does not break down. It is a simple, dusty business.
