Our office is at G-14 in the MIDC Industrial Area over in Tarapur. It is a big industrial zone, so it is mostly factories and warehouses all around us. There is always a lot of movement—forklifts, trucks, and people in high-visibility vests. Thane can be a bit of a trek depending on the traffic, but being in the MIDC makes sense for the kind of infrastructure work we do. The building is a standard industrial unit, nothing special to look at. Inside, it’s mostly desks covered in blueprints and technical drawings. We don’t spend much time making the place look pretty because we are focused on the projects out in the field. The air around here usually smells like metal or exhaust, and there is a constant hum from the nearby plants. We have a small crew in the office handling the planning and the payroll, but the real work happens on the construction sites. Most days involve a lot of phone calls and trying to coordinate materials. We get our lunch from the local canteen like everyone else in the area. It’s a practical environment where people just get on with their jobs. The roads inside the industrial area are a bit rough, but that’s to be expected with all the heavy loads. We’ve been here in Tarapur for a while and have seen the whole area grow with more units popping up every year.
