My brother and I run things here at Naikuri. People in Tamluk know us as just the Bhowmik boys who grew up around here. Purba Medinipur is a place where everyone knows everyone’s business, which is mostly a good thing. We decided to register as Bhowmik Brothers Spices Pvt. Ltd. a while back to make things official, but we still operate like a small local shop. The building is right on the corner, and we spend most of our time dealing with the heat and the humidity. It gets really stuffy when we are processing the spices, but you get used to it after a few years. We don't spend money on fancy advertisements or shiny brochures. Most people find us through word of mouth or just because they saw our sign while driving through Naikuri. Our office is just a desk with a lot of papers and some old chairs for visitors. Sometimes the supply of raw materials is late because of the traffic on the main roads, and we just have to sit and wait. We handle everything ourselves, from talking to the farmers to making sure the packets are sealed tight. It’s a lot of manual labor, but it keeps us on our feet. We aren't trying to change the world; we just want to provide something useful to the local market and earn a decent living for our families. We like it this way and don't plan on changing much.
