Elgi

We are located at Shri Ram Fabricators, 245-B, Vanagaram Road, inside the Ambattur Industrial Estate. The name on the sign is Elgi. This part of Chennai gets really hot, and being in an industrial estate doesn’t help much with the temperature. Our workshop is filled with the smell of cut metal and welding sparks. It’s a rough and ready kind of place. We have some heavy equipment that takes up most of the floor space. There’s no air conditioning here, just a few big fans that mostly just move the warm air around. We start early to catch the cooler hours of the morning. Most of the guys here have been working with metal for years. We aren't sitting at computers all day; we are moving things, measuring, and cutting. Sometimes a job is simple, other times we have to scratch our heads for a bit to figure it out. Ambattur is a busy place, and there’s always someone coming by asking for something to be fixed or built. We don’t spend money on fancy signs or decorations. The walls are a bit stained and the floor is concrete. It’s a practical space for practical work. We just keep our heads down and do the work that comes in. If you’re looking for us, look for the big blue gates on Vanagaram Road. We’ll be inside somewhere near the back doing our usual thing until the workday ends.
