About Paradise Pottery Works – Housewares & Supplies in Surendranagar
Paradise Pottery Works has been sitting out on Tarnetar Road for quite some time now. Our address is officially P.O. Box No. 29, but most people just look for the stacks of clay and the kilns when they’re driving by. Working with pottery is a messy business, and our hands are usually covered in grey dust or wet mud by noon. It’s not a quiet job either, with the wheels spinning and the fire roaring in the ovens. We don't have a fancy showroom with air conditioning. Instead, we have shelves and floor space filled with whatever we’ve managed to fire recently. Some pieces come out perfect, and others have little cracks or bumps that show they were made by a person and not a machine. We like it that way. The weather out here affects our work a lot; if it’s too humid, the clay won't dry, and if it rains, we have to move everything inside quickly. We aren’t trying to be a big factory. It’s just a local operation where we do things the traditional way. People in the area know us, and we know them. We spend our days shaping the earth into something useful. It’s a slow process, and you can’t really rush the heat of the kiln. We just take it day by day and keep the fires going. It keeps us busy and the wheels turning, which is enough to keep us satisfied.
