Maruti Cement Pipe Factory

Out here in Village Sarala, things move a bit slower than the city. We are in the Muli Taluka of Surendranagar district. It is a dry area, so the cement dries fast, which is actually good for our production. We focus on making cement pipes. You can see them stacked up high in our yard from the main road. Some of them are really big, and some are small for garden drains. We have been operating this factory for a few years now. It is a lot of hard work with the spinning machines and the heavy metal molds. My hands are rough from handling the material all day. We don't have a fancy office. It is just a small cabin with a table and some ledgers where we track who owes what. The sun in Surendranagar is no joke, so we start our work very early, sometimes at five in the morning, to avoid the worst of the afternoon heat. We don't use any fancy language to talk about what we do. We just make pipes that are solid and don't break. If a farmer needs a pipe for his field, he comes to Sarala and finds us. We load it onto his tractor or truck and that is that. It is a basic life, centered around the rhythm of the mixer and the arrival of the sand trucks. We just keep our heads down and do the work we know.
