Surya Plaza is where we set up Yash Lighting Pvt. Ltd. It's at number 8910 on the Udhna Magdalla Road in Surat. If you’ve been on this road, you know it’s always moving. Our shop is full of boxes. We have lights hanging from the ceiling and piled on shelves, so you have to be careful where you walk. It’s a bit bright inside, as you might expect. We spend the day helping people pick out things for their houses or shops. Sometimes they bring in a broken lamp and ask if we can find a part for it. We aren't big on fancy sales pitches; we just show what’s in stock. The afternoon sun hits the plaza pretty hard, so we usually keep the door half-closed to keep the heat out. The staff here is just a few guys who have been in the lighting business for a while. We know which bulbs last and which ones are just for show. Surat gets humid, so the fans are always going in the back. We keep a ledger for all the sales, mostly handwritten because it’s faster for us. It’s a simple operation. We aren't trying to be the biggest company out there. We just want to make sure when someone buys a light, it actually turns on when they get home. The plaza gets quiet after eight, and that’s when we pack up.
