Surat Glass Ltd.

Surat Glass Ltd. is situated near K. I. M. It is the kind of place where you really have to be careful about where you are stepping. We handle a lot of large glass sheets, and they are pretty much everywhere you look. They are leaning against the walls and stacked up on these special wooden racks we built. It is a quiet kind of work most of the time because everyone is concentrating on not breaking anything or getting cut. We use those orange rubber suction cups to move the bigger, heavier pieces of glass around the shop. The light reflects off all the surfaces, which makes the whole space feel much bigger and brighter than it actually is. We don’t have any fancy offices or a lobby; my desk is just tucked into a small corner away from the main cutting table. There is a constant sound of glass being scored with a cutter and then snapped into place. It can get a bit cold in the winter months because we have to keep the big front doors open to move the glass sheets in and out. We don’t really do any advertising or anything like that. Most people who need glass for their windows or doors find us because a neighbor told them we were here. We spend a lot of time cleaning marks off the glass. It is a simple, honest business. We just get on with it every day.
