You will find Srinathji Textile tucked away in Mali Ni Wadi No. 1, right in the heart of Salabatpura. If you know this area, you know it’s packed with textile units and the sound of machinery never really stops. Our space is filled with the hum of looms and the smell of raw cotton and dye. There are rolls of fabric stacked up to the ceiling in some corners, making the aisles a bit narrow to walk through. We spend our days watching the threads and making sure the patterns are coming out okay. It’s a very hands-on kind of business. The floors are usually covered in lint, no matter how many times we sweep them. We have a small office tucked in the corner where the phone rings constantly with people asking about their orders. The heat from the machines can be a lot, especially in the afternoons, so we keep the big shutters open to let in whatever breeze we can get from the street. It’s a busy atmosphere with workers moving bundles of cloth back and forth to the rickshaws waiting outside. We don’t have fancy decorations or a reception area. It’s just a place where fabric gets made day in and day out. Most of us have been in the textile trade since we were young, so we just do what we have learned over the years.
