Sonika Garments is located at No. 3704 in the Swastik Recedancy building. It’s more of a home-based setup than a big storefront you’d see in a mall. I started this because I’ve always liked working with fabrics and sewing. The room where I work is filled with rolls of cloth, threads of every color, and a couple of sewing machines that never seem to stay quiet. My kids often run in and out while I’m trying to finish a hem, so it’s a bit chaotic at times. I mainly do garments for people in the building and the nearby streets. Word of mouth is how I get most of my work. I don't have a sign outside, you just have to know which door to knock on. Sometimes I stay up late finishing an outfit for a wedding or a party because someone needed it yesterday. The lighting in my workspace is bright because I need to see the small stitches, but the rest of the flat is just a normal home. I’ve lived in Swastik Recedancy for years, so everyone knows me as the lady who fixes clothes. I don’t use any fancy software for my designs, just a pencil and some old patterns I’ve used forever. It’s a busy life balancing the house and the garments. Some days I get a lot done, and other days the sewing machine acts up.
