If you look for us at B-1/A Sarvuan Society in Adajan, you’ll find us right opposite the Yogi Complex. Navkar Hardware is a typical local shop where things are piled pretty high. We have everything from heavy tools to tiny little washers that are easy to lose. The floor is concrete and usually has some scuff marks from moving heavy boxes around. We spend a lot of time helping people find the right size of screw or explaining how a specific lock works. It’s often quite loud because of the traffic near Yogi Complex. We don’t wear uniforms or anything; we just wear our everyday clothes and get a bit of grease on them sometimes. The shop smells like metal and oil, which I’ve gotten used to over the years. My father started this, and now I’m here most days. We have a wooden counter that’s been there since we opened. Sometimes we forget to turn the sign off when we leave at night. It’s a busy life, especially on weekends when everyone is doing repairs at home. We try to keep the stock updated, but sometimes we run out of things and have to wait for the truck to arrive. It’s just how it goes. We know most of the plumbers and electricians in the Adajan area by their first names. It’s a community thing more than anything else. We just take it one customer at a time.
