You can find us over at 2885 Salabatpura, in the building called Silky House. We’re right across from the Bhanawala Apartment. If you know this area, you know it’s the heart of the textile trade, so it’s always loud and moving. Our space is mostly taken up by big rolls of silk and stacks of paperwork. It’s not a fancy office with leather chairs; it’s more of a warehouse feel where things are constantly being moved in and out. We’ve been working with silk for a long time now. My father started it and now we just keep the wheels turning. The air in the shop always has that faint smell of fabric and packing tape. We spend our mornings checking the latest batches that come in and the afternoons are usually spent dealing with orders. The stairs in Silky House are a bit steep, and the lift can be temperamental sometimes, but we’re used to it. The neighborhood is tight-knit, and we know most of the other traders nearby. It’s a lot of manual work, lifting heavy rolls and making sure the colors match what the customer asked for. We don’t have a big marketing team or anything like that. We just focus on the silk and getting the work done every day. It’s a busy life but it keeps us going.
