S. K. Glass

S. K. Glass is located on the first floor of Saphalya Industrial Estate in Silvassa. We are in Gala 7. Dealing with glass means we have to be very quiet and careful. There is always that worry of a crack or a break, so we don't rush things. The first floor isn't the easiest for moving large sheets of glass, but we have a system for it now. The estate is usually busy, but our corner stays relatively calm. The walls of the gala are lined with wooden frames to hold the different glass types. It’s a bit of a maze inside. I’ve been working with glass since I was a teenager, and now I have this small place of my own. We don't have any polished sales talk. If you need a piece cut, we cut it. The floor always has tiny shards on it, so we have to wear thick shoes. Silvassa is quite hot, and being on the first floor means we get a lot of sun. We have some old curtains to block the light so we can see what we are doing. It’s just a plain workshop. We don't have a lobby or a place for people to sit, just a workbench. Most people who come here are workers from other sites. We have our tea from the canteen downstairs. We just do our bit and go home. Sometimes the delivery truck is late, so we wait.
