Jitendra Lace Industries is located right in the heart of Surat at 3/2096, Salabatpura. If you know anything about Surat, you know that Salabatpura is a place that never really stops moving. We are specifically on Vachlisheri, which is one of those narrow streets where you’re always dodging someone or something. Our workshop is filled with the constant hum of machines. It’s a sound we’ve grown to love over the years. We make lace, and it’s a job that requires a lot of attention to detail even if the surroundings are a bit noisy and dusty. The lighting inside isn’t always the best, but we know our way around the equipment by heart now. It’s a family-run sort of place, and you’ll often find several of us arguing about the best way to fix a snag or which thread to use next. We don’t have a fancy office upstairs. Most of our time is spent on the floor, making sure the production is running right. The area outside is always full of the smell of street food and the sounds of other textile businesses doing their thing. It’s a busy, cramped, and lively way to make a living. We’ve been here for a long time, and we’ve seen the lace styles change with the seasons, but the way we work hasn’t changed much. It’s just about keeping the machines running and the orders going out the door.
