Our base is out in Vav, which is near Kamrej in the Surat district. If you know the area, it’s mostly fields and some new buildings going up here and there. We operate from Desai Gaurang’s place. It isn't a big glass building or anything like that. It’s just where we keep the records and where the guys meet up before heading out to a site. Construction work in this part of Gujarat means dealing with a lot of dust and the heat can be something else in the summer. We’ve got a few trucks and some machinery that we move around. Mostly we are busy with local jobs, putting up walls or sorting out foundations for people nearby. Life here moves at its own pace. Some mornings we are out at 6 AM if there's a big pour happening. Other days we're just sitting around the office part of the house, arguing about where the sand delivery went or why the mixer is making that weird noise again. It’s a messy business, honestly. Your boots are always dirty and there’s always something that needs fixing. But we know the people in Kamrej and they know us. We don't really do much advertising because everyone just talks to each other around here. It’s a simple setup we’ve got in Vav, and it works for what we need to do every day. There is always a lot of heavy lifting and long hours, but we get by.
