We are over at Plot Number 7102 on Road 71 in the GIDC Sachin area. This is where we make narrow fabrics—things like tapes, ribbons, and webbing. The factory is filled with these small, fast machines that hum all day long. It’s a different kind of noise than a heavy machine shop, more like a high-pitched buzzing. We have rows of bobbins with different colored threads. We spend a lot of time just threading the machines and making sure the patterns are coming out right. If one thread snaps, the whole thing stops. It can be a bit tedious, but that’s the work. My brother and I manage the daily operations. We grew up watching our dad do this kind of work in a smaller unit. GIDC Sachin is a huge place, and it’s easy to get lost if you don't know the road numbers. Our building is a standard industrial shed. We have a small area for packing where the finished rolls are wrapped in plastic and boxed up. There’s always some lint floating in the air, so we have to sweep the floors twice a day. We don't do much in the way of sales meetings or fancy presentations. Most of our customers are garment manufacturers who just call and tell us what they need for their next batch. We just keep the machines running and try to stay on schedule. The overhead lights are a bit dim in the back, so we use flashlights sometimes.
