You can find us at the Swami Narayan Shopping Centre on Boat Club Road in Sayedpura. The smell of new rubber is the first thing you notice when you walk into the shop. We have stacks of tyres piled up against the walls, almost reaching the ceiling in some corners. It’s a bit of a mess sometimes, especially when we’re in the middle of a busy afternoon. We spend most of our time out front on the pavement, jacking up cars and pulling off old wheels. My hands are almost always black from the grease and road grime, no matter how many times I wash them. We use a lot of air tools, so there’s a constant whistling and banging sound coming from the compressors. The shopping centre is a decent place to be, though parking for our customers can be a bit of a headache when the other shops are busy. We don’t have a fancy waiting room with a TV or anything. Most folks just stand around and watch us work or go grab a soda nearby. We see all kinds of vehicles, from old scooters to new cars that hit a bad pothole. The tools are scattered across the workbench, and the floor is usually covered in some bits of metal or old valves. It’s loud, it’s dirty, and it’s what we do every day from morning until the sun goes down over the river. It's just simple work.
