About Rotiwala Photo Arts – Safety & Security in Surat
I've been sitting in this shop at 2/567 Rustampura for quite a few years now. It is right on the 5th Cross near 9th A Main Road, so it gets pretty busy when the afternoon sun hits the sidewalk outside. Most days I’m just here among the wooden frames and the old cameras, waiting for someone to come in with a photo they need fixed or a portrait they want to take for their family. The light in this part of the building isn't always the best for photography, so I had to put in some extra lamps and a few white boards to help. It’s not a huge place, just a simple room with my desk and the back area where I do all the editing on my computer. Sometimes the traffic outside gets so loud with the rickshaws and bikes that I can barely hear the phone ring on the wall, but you get used to it after a while. I remember when I first moved in, the walls were a different color, and the floor was a bit uneven in the corner. I fixed some of it myself with some cement and paint. People walk past all day, heading down towards the main road, and a few stop in to ask about prices for passport photos or prints. It’s a quiet living mostly. I keep a small radio on the shelf to pass the time. There's always dust on the glass displays that I have to wipe down every morning. It’s just how things go around here in Rustampura.
