If you go down to Piparia Ind. Estate, you’ll find Garware - Wall Ropes Ltd. across several plots. We’ve got Plot No. 75, 76, 81, and 86. It’s a lot of ground to cover. We spend a lot of time walking between the different buildings. It’s all about ropes here. We make them for all sorts of things. The machines are huge and they never seem to stop. There’s a constant rhythm to the place. You can hear the clicking and whirring from the street. It’s not a quiet job. We have a lot of spools and rolls of material stacked up. It’s easy to get turned around in the warehouse if you’re new. We don't really do the whole corporate image thing. Even though the name sounds official, we’re just people working with thread and cord. The Piparia area is usually congested with big lorries coming and going. We have to be quick when we’re loading up. The breakroom is the only place you can really hear yourself think. We sit there and talk about the weekend or the cricket score. The work is steady. We’ve seen the estate change over the years, but our plots stay the same. We just keep making the ropes and keeping the machines maintained. It’s a lot of manual checking to make sure nothing is snagged.
