Sisa Emu Farms & Hatchary

We are over at Sisa House in the Sameer Complex. It’s part of the Navsarjan Society in Pandesara. It’s a bit of a unique setup because you don't always expect to find emu farming talk in a place like this. But we make it work. We have the hatchery part where we keep a close eye on everything. It’s a lot of manual labor. We are constantly checking temperatures and making sure the birds are okay. Our boots are usually muddy and our hands are never clean for long. We don't have a fancy marketing team. We just tell people what we have and they come to see for themselves. Pandesara is a busy place, but our little corner is focused on the life of the birds. It’s not always quiet. Sometimes the sounds from the hatchery can be heard from the street. We’ve got some basic cages and equipment that we’ve put together over the years. It’s a practical business. We aren't trying to look like a high-tech lab. We are just farmers who happen to be in a more urban area. People from the society often ask us how the emus are doing. We like that. It’s a community thing. We spend our days feeding, cleaning, and watching over the eggs. It is hard work, but we are used to it. If you come by Sisa House, you'll see we are just regular folks doing something a bit different. We started small and we still are pretty small.
