If you walk down Laxmi Nagar, you will probably smell the wood before you see our sign for Jay Timber And Ply. We have been in this spot for quite a while now. The shop is full of different types of plywood and timber stacks that reach almost to the ceiling. It can get a bit cramped inside, so we usually end up talking to people out on the sidewalk or just inside the doorway. There is always a layer of fine sawdust on everything, no matter how much we sweep. It just comes with the territory of working with wood. My hands are usually rough from moving the sheets around, but you get used to it. We don't have a fancy showroom. We just show people the actual wood they are going to buy. Most of the customers are local guys from the neighborhood or builders who need a few things for a job nearby. We keep it simple. If you need a specific thickness of ply, we go find it in the back. Sometimes it takes a minute to dig it out because everything is piled high. We usually have a radio playing in the corner, mostly news or some old songs. It keeps the day moving along. Laxmi Nagar is a busy place, but we like the pace of it. We wrap things up in the evening and lock the shutters tight after a long day of moving heavy boards.
