We’re out in Kharadpada, specifically at Survey No. 392/42. It’s a bit of a trek to get here, but it’s where we keep all the stone. You’ll see slabs of marble stacked up all over the yard. It’s heavy work, moving these things around with the crane. There’s always white dust on our boots and clothes by the end of the shift. We’ve been here quite a while and have seen the area change around us. The sun hits the yard pretty hard in the afternoon, making the stone almost too hot to touch sometimes. We just keep our heads down and get the cutting done. It’s not a glamorous job, but there’s something nice about seeing a raw piece of stone get cleaned up and ready for use. We don’t have a flashy showroom. Most people just come right to the yard to see what we’ve got in stock. Our guys are pretty handy with the saws and the polishers. We’ve had the same crew for a long time, so we all know how the day is going to go. It’s just us, the stone, and the constant noise of the machines. That’s about it for our little operation here in the village area. We usually finish up when the light starts to fade because it's hard to see the veins in the marble once it's dark. The piles of scrap stone grow throughout the week until we clear them out on Saturdays.
