Silvassa Ice Industries

Down in Village Samarvani, at Survey No. 208/1/2/3, is where we run Silvassa Ice Industries. Making ice might seem simple, but it takes a lot of watching the machines and keeping the water flowing right. We have these big tanks and the whole place feels cold even when it is boiling hot outside in the village. It is a relief to step inside the freezer rooms sometimes. We mostly supply to the local markets and the fishermen who need to keep their catch fresh. The trucks come early in the morning, sometimes before the sun is even up, to load the blocks and crushed ice. It is a noisy business with the compressors running all the time. We live close by, so someone is always around to check on things if an alarm goes off. The building is just plain concrete, nothing to look at from the outside. Inside, it is all pipes and frost. We have had a few leaks over the years, and the floor is always a bit wet, so we wear rubber boots. We do not spend money on advertising or fancy brochures. People know where we are because we have been in Samarvani for such a long time. We just focus on making sure the ice is clean and frozen solid. It is honest work and it keeps us busy throughout the year, especially during the summer.
