Krishna Time & Novelty

Krishna Time & Novelty is right in the middle of the action at Joglekarwadi Fish Market in Surat. We are in G-4 of the Jashlaxmi Complex. Being near the fish market means it’s always loud and crowded outside, which we’ve grown to enjoy. There is a lot of energy in this part of Surat. Our shop is filled with all sorts of watches and small novelty items that catch the eye. It’s a small space, so every inch of the walls is covered with something. We spend a lot of time fixing watch straps or changing batteries for people who drop by while they’re doing their shopping. It’s a hands-on job and our fingers are usually a bit stained from the tools. We don’t have a website or anything like that; people just find us by walking through the complex. The floor is a bit worn down from all the foot traffic over the years. Sometimes the smell from the market drifts in, but that’s just part of being here. We know most of the other shopkeepers in Jashlaxmi Complex. We’ve been selling timepieces and little gifts for a long time now. It’s a simple life, opening up the shutters in the morning and seeing who comes in. We aren't looking to change much about how we do things because this works for us and the neighborhood.
