Our place is called Shree Janki Lifestyle Pvt. Ltd. and we are situated in Kohinoor Market. The shop numbers are C-1421 and 1422. This is right on the Ring Road, which is probably one of the busiest streets you will ever see. There are trucks and rickshaws and people carrying huge bundles of cloth on their heads at all hours. Being in the Kohinoor Market means we are part of a huge network of textile traders. Our unit is on the C block. It’s a long walk from the main entrance, but there is a lift that works most of the time. Inside, it’s mostly just stacks of goods and a small area where we have two chairs and a table for when people come to talk. We spend a lot of time on the phone or checking the ledgers. The air in the market is always thick with the smell of new fabric and diesel smoke from the road outside. It gets very loud, with everyone shouting to be heard over the traffic. We usually get lunch from a small canteen in the basement. It’s a tough business and the hours are long, especially when new stock arrives and we have to count everything. We have been in this same spot for a few years now. The walls could use a new coat of paint, but we are too busy to worry about that. It’s just a practical workspace for us.
