We are tucked away in Keerthi Layout, right at the Bharthana 2nd Cross. Kiran Dance Academy isn’t hard to find if you’re familiar with this side of town. The building is just a standard setup but we’ve put down some decent flooring so it doesn’t hurt everyone’s feet when they’re practicing. Most days, you can hear the music starting up around five in the evening. That’s when the first group of younger kids arrives. We spend a lot of time sweeping the floor because the dust from the street outside always finds its way in through the gaps under the door. There’s a small area where parents sit and wait, usually scrolling on their phones or talking quietly while the music plays. I keep a stack of old magazines there, but nobody really looks at them. The mirrors on the far wall always need cleaning because the little ones like to touch them. It gets pretty warm in the studio during the summer months, even with the fans going full blast. We’ve had to fix the sound system a couple of times this year because the wiring is a bit temperamental. It’s not a flashy place with neon lights, just a room where people come to move around and learn their steps. Most of our regulars live just a few streets away, so it feels like a neighborhood thing. We just keep the music going and hope the power stays on.
