I Am Chemist

I run a small place called I Am Chemist over in Surat, Gujarat. It is not one of those massive pharmacies you see in the malls. It is just a local shop where I keep the shelves stocked with what people in the neighborhood usually need. I spend most of my day standing behind the counter talking to customers. Some of them have been coming to me for years, and I know their families by now. It’s a simple life. I have to be careful with the records and make sure everything is where it should be. The shop isn't very big, so things can get a bit cramped when I get a big delivery of boxes. I don't have a team of people helping me, just maybe a boy to help with deliveries sometimes. I like being my own boss, even if the hours are long. Surat is a busy city and the street outside is always noisy with scooters and cars. I just stay inside and keep the fans going to beat the heat. I don't use any fancy computer systems for everything, just my notebooks and a basic register. People know they can come to me when they have a minor cough or need some bandages. It is just a regular chemist shop for regular people who live nearby. I try to keep the doors open as much as I can throughout the week.
