Gujrat Plywood Centre

If you head down Udhana Magdalla Road, you’ll find our plywood centre. It’s a straightforward place. We deal with wood sheets all day long. The smell of sawdust is pretty much always in the air here. We have different grades of plywood stacked up against the walls. Some are for basic stuff, others are a bit better quality for cabinets and things. People come by with their trucks and we help them load up what they need. It’s heavy work, but we are used to it. My family has been doing this kind of thing for a bit. The shop isn't anything special to look at, just a big room with a lot of wood. We keep an eye on the weather because moisture isn't great for the inventory. When it rains, we have to make sure everything is tucked away and dry. Most of our customers are locals from the neighborhood or builders working on projects nearby. We talk about the wood, the prices, and how things are going in the area. It’s a steady routine. We show up, move some boards, talk to a few people, and head home. There isn't much more to it than that. We just try to keep the right stuff in stock so when a carpenter walks in, he doesn't have to go somewhere else. Sometimes we get a bit of help from the younger guys in the family when school is out. They learn how to measure the sheets and how to tell the difference between commercial ply and the waterproof stuff. Udhana Magdalla Road is a busy spot, so we get a lot of dust from the street, but we sweep up every evening. We have an old fan that wobbles a bit, but it helps when the humidity gets high. We keep a ledger of who owes what, and we write everything down by hand. It’s the way we’ve always done it. There’s a certain satisfaction in seeing a full warehouse at the start of the week and a mostly empty one by Saturday. It means people are building things, and that’s good for everyone in the neighborhood. We don’t have any big signs, just the name above the door.
