Giri Raj Ice Factory

We are located at Plot Number 425/8 in the GIDC area. It’s an ice factory, so as you can imagine, it gets pretty cold inside even when it’s boiling hot outside. We spend the day filling molds, moving heavy blocks of ice around, and making sure the freezing units are running like they should. It’s a lot of physical work. Those blocks are heavier than they look. We’ve been at this plot for a good while. The machinery is loud and it drips a lot, so the floors are always wet. You have to watch your step or you’ll end up on your back. We don't really have a front office for visitors; people just pull their trucks up to the loading dock and we get them what they need. Some days are busier than others, especially when there's a local festival or the summer heat really kicks in. Then we're working late just to keep up with the demand. It’s just me and a few guys who don't mind the cold and the damp. We keep the logs of the temperatures and make sure the water is clean. There’s not much more to tell about an ice factory. It’s straightforward work that needs to be done. We stay busy, we keep the ice moving out the door, and we try to stay dry when we can. Sometimes the compressors give us trouble, but we manage to keep them running well enough.
