Madhav Jari & Metallic

Madhav Jari & Metallic is located over in the Paras Industrial Estate, right across from Lucky Garden. It’s a busy corner of the city near Gajera Circle where there is always some kind of dust in the air from all the factories. We have been at unit number 24 for a long time now. The machines that make the jari and the metallic threads make a constant humming sound that vibrates through the floor. You don't even hear it after a few years of working here. The metallic thread is everywhere—sometimes you find little shiny bits on your clothes even after you go home. It’s a bit of a messy business but it’s what we know. The estate can get really hot in the summer, and the fans mostly just move the warm air around. We have a small crew and everyone knows their job. We don’t spend much on decorating the place because it’s a workshop, not a showroom. Most of our day is spent checking the tension on the wires and making sure the spools are winding correctly. Sometimes the power goes out in the estate and we all just sit outside for a bit until it comes back on. It’s not a glamorous life, but seeing the finished product ready to go out to the textile mills is a good feeling at the end of a long shift.
