We are over at number 43 in the Omkar Industrial Society on Fulpada Road. It’s in the Katargam area of Surat. It is a busy industrial park, lots of trucks coming and going all day long. My name is on the door, and we run things fairly simply. We deal with jari work, which is what this part of Surat is known for. The machines run for most of the day. It gets hot inside during the summer, but we are used to it by now. It isn't a massive factory, just a decent-sized unit where a few of us keep things moving. We’ve been here long enough that we know all the delivery drivers by name. We don't spend money on fancy decorations or big signs. The floor is concrete, and the walls have a few marks here and there. That’s just life in a workshop. We take things one day at a time. If someone needs something specific, they usually just come by and ask. We don’t have a website or anything like that, just this physical space in Surat. Sometimes the power goes out, and we all just sit outside and wait. It’s part of the routine. We are just local people doing what we’ve always done in the textile trade. It’s hard work, but it keeps us busy and pays the bills. My family has been in this line of work for many years.
