Champaklal Khatiwala

You can find me at 1/221 Nanpura, up on the first floor. The office is right there on the 1st Cross of 12th Main, over in the HAL 2nd Stage area. It’s very close to the Nanpura Police Choki, which is usually the landmark I tell people to look for when they’re lost. My name is Champaklal Khatiwala and I’ve been in this building for a long time. The stairs are a bit steep and they creak every time someone comes up, but you get used to it after a week or two. I spend a lot of my time looking out the window at the traffic moving toward the police station. It’s a busy part of town. The walls inside are painted an old shade of cream that’s started to peel a bit in the corners, but I don’t mind it much. It feels like home to me. I keep my files in stacks because I know exactly where everything is, even if it looks like a jumble to a stranger. I usually have the radio on low in the background just to have some noise while I work. Sometimes the neighbors from the other units come in to borrow a stapler or just to complain about the heat. It’s just a normal day-to-day life here. No big corporate meetings, just me handling the business as it comes in. I've been here since before the road was paved nicely like it is now and I plan on staying right here until I retire from this work.
