Amit Watch Co sits on Serpentine Street in Palanpur. The name of the street fits because it winds around a bit, and we are right there in the middle of it. It’s a practical kind of place. We don’t have much room for anything other than our workstations and a couple of shelves for the finished jobs. We’ve worked on everything from those heavy old wall clocks to the slim watches people wear nowadays. The air in Palanpur can get dusty, so we spend a lot of time cleaning out the insides of watches. It’s tedious work, but someone has to do it. We don't use any fancy language to describe what we do. If a watch is broken, we try to fix it. If it’s too far gone, we say so. Our customers are mostly locals who’ve been coming to Serpentine Street for years. We know their names and what kind of watches they like. The shop isn't perfectly tidy, but it's a working shop. There are always tools lying around and some half-finished projects waiting for parts to arrive. We don't have a team of people, just a couple of us who know how to use our hands. It's a steady life. We open up in the morning, fix what needs fixing, and close when the sun goes down. It's been that way for a long time now.
