We are based out of Basundhara in the Sundargarh district of Orissa. Our office is actually in one of the quarters, number B-4/43, so it’s a very local, small-scale setup. J.S.P.L. might sound like a big acronym, but here on the ground, it’s just a few of us handling the daily chores. The area around here is tied to the industrial and mining activities of the region. Living and working in the same vicinity means we are always around if something comes up. It’s not the kind of place where you’ll find glass buildings or receptionists. We handle our own paperwork and answer our own mail. The surroundings are pretty simple, and we like it that way. Most of our days are spent coordinating things or checking on supplies. It’s a bit of a distance from the main city, so we have to be self-reliant. Sometimes the power cuts out, but we just wait it out and get back to it. We know the neighbors well since we all live in the same quarters area. It’s a close-knit environment. Basundhara is a small place, so news travels fast. The quarters are standard government-style housing, which we've adapted into our workspace. It’s a bit of a tight squeeze when we have to store a lot of files. We try to keep the garden outside somewhat neat, but the red dust covers everything eventually. We usually have a radio playing in the background to keep things lively. The monsoon season is the hardest because the roads get quite muddy. We just wear our boots and keep going.
