Mahaluxmi Shg

Mahaluxmi Shg is what we call our group here in Staundi. That's in the Gharaunda part of Karnal. We've been operating out of this same spot for a while now. It’s a local effort, mostly run by people who grew up right here in the village. We don't have any big marketing plans or anything like that. We just focus on the daily chores and making sure everyone has what they need. Some days the heat in Karnal makes it hard to work in the afternoons, so we start really early. We sit together and work on whatever needs doing that day. It might be sorting things or putting things together. We aren't very formal about it. If someone is sick, someone else steps in. That's how it works in a place like Staundi. We know everyone’s name and their kids' names too. The building we use is old, but it stays cool enough. We've got some old wooden tables and chairs that have been around as long as the group has. We don't spend money on new stuff if the old stuff still works. It’s a simple way of living and working. We are just a bunch of neighbors trying to make a little extra and stay busy. If you come by Gharaunda, you might see us sitting outside if the weather is nice. We just keep to ourselves and get the work finished.
