V L Textiles

If you walk down Pennington Street in Mangapuram, you’ll see V L Textiles at 5/216. It’s a busy little stretch of road, and we’re right in the middle of it. Inside, it’s mostly just rolls of fabric and stacks of cloth reaching up toward the ceiling. The air usually has that specific smell of new textiles and dust. We spend a lot of time measuring out lengths and moving heavy bolts of fabric from one shelf to another. It isn't a quiet place because there is always someone coming in to ask about a specific color or material. We don't have any fancy displays or bright lights. It’s just the shelves, a big cutting table, and a few old fans that hum all day long to keep the air moving. The neighborhood is quite lively, so there’s always something to see out the window while we’re working. Sometimes the street gets blocked by a delivery van, and everyone has to wait, but that’s just life on Pennington Street. We’ve been here for a good while, so the locals know us. We just keep our heads down and get the orders ready. It’s a lot of repetitive work, folding and unfolding, but it’s what we do. By the time we close up in the evening, our hands are usually a bit tired, but it feels good to have gotten through the day's pile. We finish up and go home.
