Kumar & Company

Our shop is at 199 Pennington Street in Mangapuram. It’s an old street and we’ve been part of it for a long time. Kumar started this place years ago and we just kept it going. We do a bit of everything here, mostly trading. The shelves are usually full of different items and it can look a bit cluttered if you aren't used to it. We know where everything is, though. People from the neighborhood drop in throughout the day. It’s a small space, so it gets crowded quickly. We don't have a big staff, just a couple of us behind the counter. The fan on the ceiling makes a clicking sound that we stopped noticing years ago. Mangapuram is a lively place to be. We see the same faces every morning. We handle a lot of small orders and some bigger ones too. The desk in the back is where we keep the ledgers. We haven't changed much over the years. We still use the same old wooden door. It’s a bit stiff in the winter. We just try to be helpful to whoever walks in. There’s no big secret to how we work. We just show up, open the shutters, and see what the day brings. Pennington Street has changed a lot. There used to be more trees, but now it's all buildings. At number 199, we've stayed pretty much the same. We have some old metal cabinets that have been here since the 80s.
