Zahoor General Store

Zahoor General Store is located in the Narwara area of Srinagar, specifically at Malik Sahab Safa Kadal. I started this place because people in the neighborhood needed a spot to pick up bits and pieces without traveling too far. Srinagar winters get cold, so we make sure to have plenty of tea and basic supplies in stock when the snow starts falling. The shop isn't very large. It’s tucked away near the bridge area. I usually sit here from morning until the sun goes down. We sell soap, snacks, batteries, and whatever else the local families ask for. Sometimes the electricity goes out, but we stay open with a lamp. My neighbors come by not just to buy things but sometimes just to say hello or talk about the weather and what is happening in the city. It is a quiet kind of business. I try to keep the prices okay because I know everyone around here. You won't find anything flashy here, just wooden shelves filled with boxes and bags. Dealing with suppliers can be a headache sometimes with the transport, but we manage to keep the essentials on the counter. If you’re walking through Narwara, you’ll probably see me sitting by the front door. It is just a regular shop for regular people. No big deal. We keep it simple and just do our work every day without complaining much about how things are or how busy life gets for us.
