Tariq General Store

Tariq General Store has been at M K Chowk for quite some time now. Being in Hawal, we see a lot of the same people every single day. The shop is filled with everyday items like soap, toothpaste, and different kinds of spices. It’s a bit cramped inside because we try to fit as much as possible on the shelves. Sometimes the lights flicker but we just keep going. We open up early because that’s when people want their morning supplies. The air in Srinagar can get very chilly, so the shop is a good place to duck inside for a bit. We don't have a website or any of that. Just a counter and a scale. People like to talk about what’s happening in the neighborhood while they wait for their change. We keep things simple. If a box of goods arrives, we unpack it right there in the middle of the floor. It’s a bit messy sometimes but we know where everything is. You can find almost any small thing for the house here. We don’t do any advertising. Word of mouth is how people know us. It’s a humble place and we are happy to serve the folks who live nearby. Just a regular day for us involves checking stock and chatting with customers. We are just a part of the daily rhythm of this street.
