Sheikh General Store

In Umar Colony, specifically in the Lal Bazar area of Srinagar, you will find our small shop. Sheikh General Store has been a part of this neighborhood for quite some time. We sell mostly daily essentials like milk, bread, eggs, and some dry rations. Winters here get very cold, so we have to stock up on things before the snow starts. The shop is a small wooden structure and it gets a bit cramped when more than three people come in at once. I usually keep a small heater near my feet during the December months. People stop by not just to buy things, but also to share some news about the locality. It’s a quiet place, away from the main city noise. I handle everything myself, from ordering the goods to sweeping the floor in the morning. Sometimes the delivery trucks are late because of the roads, so we run out of things like butter or certain biscuits. My customers are patient though; they’ve known me since I was a young man. I don't use any fancy barcodes or computers, just a simple calculator and a pen. It’s a lot of sitting and waiting, but I like seeing the familiar faces every day. It’s a humble business. We don't have a big marketing plan or anything. We just open the doors every morning and see who comes by.
