Running an accounting practice in Srinagar has its own rhythm. The office is located near the Gulshan Nagar Bypass. It’s a handy spot because people coming into the city can find it without getting stuck in the middle of the heavy downtown traffic. During the winter months, it gets really cold, so we spend a lot of time huddled near the heater with mugs of tea while we go through piles of ledgers and tax forms. Srinagar is beautiful, but the work here is the same as anywhere else—lots of numbers and making sure the math adds up. The bypass road always has trucks and cars moving past, so there’s a constant hum of engines in the background. It isn't a fancy firm with glass walls; it’s just a workspace with enough room for me and the files. People from around Gulshan Nagar come in with their receipts and problems, and we sit down to figure things out together. Sometimes the internet is slow or the power goes out, but we just keep working manually until it comes back. It’s a straightforward business. No big promises or complicated talk, just helping local people and businesses get their taxes and accounts in order so they don't have any trouble later on. That’s pretty much how we spend our days here in Kashmir, dealing with the numbers one client at a time until the sun goes down.
