Royal Kashmiri Walnut Industries

Our place is at 93 Post Office Road in Rajbagh. It is an old building and we have been here for years. We deal with walnuts, so there is always the sound of shells cracking or bags being dragged across the floor. The road outside stays busy because of the post office nearby, so there is a lot of honking and people walking past. Inside, it is mostly stacks of gunny bags filled with nuts. We spend the day grading them, seeing which ones are whole and which ones are bits. It gets quite dusty, especially when a new shipment arrives from the orchards. We have a couple of old desks and a computer that takes forever to start up, but it gets the job done. We are not much for fancy talk. If someone wants walnuts, they come in, we show them what we have, and we talk about the price. Rajbagh is a good spot, though the winters get really cold in this office. We just put on extra sweaters and keep working. Sometimes the bags pile up so high you can't see the other side of the room. It’s just honest work. We make sure the kernels are clean and the shells are dry. That is what we do every day from morning until the sun goes down over the road.
